Introductory notes

The King’s Cross Development Forum was set up in 2002 by the planning department at the London Borough of Camden (formally Camden Council Culture and Environment Directorate Planning Division) in association with the London Borough of Islington. Until 2008 the planning department provided administrative assistance for the Forum and supported a web site.

The Forum helps people living and working in King’s Cross to have a say in the future of the area and the development of the old railway lands (now known as “King’s Cross Central”). It consists of member organisation volunteers and individuals from the local communities. It elects a Co-ordinating Group each year to plan its work, monitor developments and make information available (through meetings and this web site). It also appoints a Planning Response Team to examine relevant planning applications and propose comments for inclusion in responses to applications.

Through the Co-ordinating Group or the Planning Response Team the Forum might simply provide comments for its members to use in their own responses to planning applications. Alternatively, it might make a response in its own right, especially if the application raises matters that go beyond the concerns of the member organisations; for instance, the application might deal with facilities for future occupants of King’s Cross Central (who, by their nature, might not be represented by organisations that are members of the Forum) or with allocations of resources across the entire King’s Cross area.

Since the master plan for King’s Cross Central was give outline planning permission, the Forum has been more concerned with detailed proposals for individual buildings in and around King’s Cross Central and with the facilities that will be available when people move in to King’s Cross Central. The Forum is also to monitor the significant sums that the developers will pay for community benefit.

The current members of the Co-ordinating Group are Hugh Lake (chair), Michael Edwards, Helia Evans, Jim Humphris, Angela Inglis (vice chair), Robert Milne (secretary), Matty Mitford (treasurer) and Norman Sheppard.

The current members of the Planning Response Team are Michael Edwards, Anne Howeson and Norman Sheppard.
